The historic grazing property "Cambria" is located north of the coastal township of Swansea on the East Coast of Tasmania, approximately 138 kms north east of Hobart and around the same distance south east of Launceston. Swansea is located on the shores of Great Oyster Bay overlooking the magnificent Freycinet Peninsula and is a popular tourist stopover. The township provides access to a primary school, excellent medical facilities, local shops, accommodation, tavern and a community bank.

"Cambria", built in 1830-1837 by George Meredith, on the banks of the Meredith River, was widely known throughout the 19th century as the Government House of the East Coast. Georgian in design, with one of Tasmania's earliest gardens, the homestead displays its colonial origins with its circular box hedge, stately bunya pines and hawthorn hedges. For a time the home of Louisa Ann Meredith, colonial artist and author, this historic property has only changed hands three times since settlement, and was purchased by the current owners in 1956. Unusually built with three levels, the front of the house gives the feeling of a single story Georgian house, whereas from the back of the building it rises majestically to three full floors.

With sweeping views from the kitchen addition built in 2000, of the Meredith River and further, towards the Freycinet Peninsular, this family home has also retained much of its original Georgian interior. Sensitive re-decorating has been done, leaving one of the largest expanses of original 'marbling wallpaper'. With its original glazed french doors opening from the formal rooms onto the sandstone verandah, marble fireplaces, fanlight doors, and baltic ceilings in the top floor, Cambria remains one of the few "original" Georgian houses in Australia. The kitchen addition has been sensitively added with cedar outside panelling and a pitched glass roof giving the feel of a conservatory.
